About the Winery

Chateau Thivin

Celebrated as one of the oldest wineries in the picturesque region of Beaujolais, France, Chateau Thivin is steeped in rich history and unparalleled charm. Constructed in the 14th century, the vine-covered walls of this exquisite chateau hug the verdant slopes of Mont Brouilly, where the influence of the ideal terroir on the quality of the grapes is undisputed.

Owned and run by the Geoffray family since 1877, Chateau Thivin exudes a welcoming ambience that is more akin to a family home than a commercial entity. The family's deep-rooted respect for tradition and an unbroken chain of wine-making knowledge passed down through generation, put Chateu Thivin in a class of its own.

The vineyard itself envelops around 8 hectares of land where the soil is predominantly volcanic blue stone and pink granite. This makes it an ideal breeding ground for the Gamay grape, the signature grape not just of Chateau Thivin: but of the entire Beaujolais region. The winemaking process follows sustainable and organic principles therefore, ensuring that each bottle that leaves Chateau Thivin reflects the authentic flavours of its provenance, while also being friendly to the environment.

Chateau Thivin continually produces wines with extraordinary finesse and singular elegance. Wine connoisseurs from across the globe rave about its full-bodied, tantalizing and unmistakably classic Brouilly wines. The harmony of scent and flavour, the tantalising acidity balanced with a characteristic minerality fruit forwardness: is at the heart of what makes a Chateau Thivin wine truly exceptional.

Visiting Chateau Thivin is a rewarding experience in of itself. Welcoming paths through the vineyards, rustic rooms for sampling, and hour-long tours imparting valuable knowledge about the wine making process - all blend seamlessly to create a memorable visit.

In conclusion, Chateau Thivin, with its illustrious history, dedicated passion for winemaking, and exceptional wines, stands as a testament to the distinctive charm of Beaujolais.
