About the Winery

Domaine de la Janasse

Nestled in the heart of the southern Rhône Valley, Domaine de la Janasse is a beacon of world-class winemaking. Coveted as one of the most prolific and prestigious wineries in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this captivating vineyard, spanning over 90 hectares, has solidified its presence on the international stage.

The winery was established in 1976 by Aimé Sabon. He returned from his military service and took over the vineyards from his father. His passion for wine led him to convert a portion of their family property into a winemaking facility. Together with his wife, he had devoted his heart and soul to developing this winery, and their efforts were rewarded with resounding success.

Perched upon rocky terrains, the vineyard basks in the generous Provencal sunshine and revels in the Rhône river's cooling influences. Comprised mainly of old-vine Grenache, complemented by Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, and Bourboulenc, Domaine de la Janasse is uniquely positioned to produce wines of remarkable intensity and character,

The Janasse philosophy combines a meticulous approach in the vineyard with a traditional winemaking method. Each bottle is emblematic of the domaine's commitment to express the authenticity and diversity of its terroir in the glass. One of the highlights from this esteemed winery is Chaupin, an eminently elegant and complex cuvée that has commanded international acclaim.

While respecting the time-honoured techniques, the Sabon family also embrace innovation and sustainable practices. Over the years, Domaine de la Janasse continued to thrive under the management of Aimé's children, Christophe and Isabelle, who share their father's dedication to the vines.

Whether, novice or seasoned oenophile, Domaine de la Janasse beckons with an opportunity to explore a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity embedded in every bottle. This extraordinary vineyard is a testament to the resilience and sheer passion of the Sabon family who have forged a legacy that resounds throughout the wine world.
