Product Notes

Steenberg 1682 Pinot Noir Brut Méthode Cap Classique wine is a captivating South African delight. Exquisitely crafted in honour of Steenberg's 1682 establishment, this vintage is dazzled with an alluring freshness and buoyant notes of strawberry, with intriguing hints of Turkish Delight and maraschino cherry. Its golden peach hue enchants the eye, while a refined minerality and crisp acidity caresses the palate. Bountiful bubbles and a sumptuous creamy complexity complete this elegant experience. This wine brilliantly adds a luxurious touch to any occasion, propelling South African sparkling wine into the international spotlight. A toast to a rich heritage and a glorious future.

Tasting Notes

Our pale pink 1682 Pinot Noir Cap Classique is fresh with fruity aromas of raspberry jelly, wild strawberry sorbet, red apple skin and toasted brioche. The wine has a very fine mousse that lifts the raspberry-like aromas and is balanced well with a creamy texture and bright acidity with a lingering dry finish. Enjoy in its youth or cellar for 3 to 5 years to promote a more savoury flavour development.

About the Winery

Steenberg

Steenberg Vineyards stand as the oldest registered farm in the picturesque Cape Peninsula. Founded in 1682, the wine estate is steeped in rich history and the spirit of its bold founder, Catharina Ras. Known for her fierce determination and pioneering spirit, Catharina’s legacy can be tasted in every drop of Steenberg wine.

Nestled below the astounding mountains of Tokai, the vineyard is known for producing a selection of captivating wines. The cool ocean breezes that sweep the peninsula lend the wines their unique character, providing delicate flavours and a distinct minerality. Steenberg wines are renowned both locally and internationally for their exceptional quality and elegance.

Perhaps the most distinctively South African of their wines is the Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc. This staple product of Steenberg has vivacious notes of fresh tropical fruits over an undertone of mineral complexity. It's perfect for drinking on a summer afternoon with a plate of fresh seafood.

The winery isn't simply a repository of great wines; it is also known for its commitment to sustainability. Steenberg’s environmental stewardship programme ensures that wine production harmonises with the natural ecosystem as much as possible, as well as aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the wine production process. This responsive cognisance to the Earth that gives them their bountiful crop rewards us with fantastic wines that soothe the palate and the conscience alike.

But the delights of Steenberg don’t end at the vineyard. Alongside the wine tasting room, the estate houses two world-class restaurants, a luxury boutique hotel and a championship golf course.

Steenberg Vineyards truly embodies the essence of the Western Cape. It offers a cornucopia of experiences to indulge in, from sipping sublime wines to playing a round on an elegant golf course in the shadow of the grandeur of the Cape mountains. Steenberg offers a taste of the high-life, and it’s an experience that shouldn't be missed.
