Tasting Notes

Complex layers of basil and cedar, cassis and lavender blossom, cinnamon stick and dark chocolate. Concentrated red and black fruit (raspberry, blackcurrant and black cherry) show on both the nose and the palate, accented with a full, smooth texture from the Cabernet Sauvignon component. Light herbal notes from the Merlot lend a refreshing finish, while the Malbec and Petit Verdot round out the blend, adding structure and depth.

About the Winery

Steenberg

Steenberg Vineyards stand as the oldest registered farm in the picturesque Cape Peninsula. Founded in 1682, the wine estate is steeped in rich history and the spirit of its bold founder, Catharina Ras. Known for her fierce determination and pioneering spirit, Catharina’s legacy can be tasted in every drop of Steenberg wine.

Nestled below the astounding mountains of Tokai, the vineyard is known for producing a selection of captivating wines. The cool ocean breezes that sweep the peninsula lend the wines their unique character, providing delicate flavours and a distinct minerality. Steenberg wines are renowned both locally and internationally for their exceptional quality and elegance.

Perhaps the most distinctively South African of their wines is the Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc. This staple product of Steenberg has vivacious notes of fresh tropical fruits over an undertone of mineral complexity. It's perfect for drinking on a summer afternoon with a plate of fresh seafood.

The winery isn't simply a repository of great wines; it is also known for its commitment to sustainability. Steenberg’s environmental stewardship programme ensures that wine production harmonises with the natural ecosystem as much as possible, as well as aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the wine production process. This responsive cognisance to the Earth that gives them their bountiful crop rewards us with fantastic wines that soothe the palate and the conscience alike.

But the delights of Steenberg don’t end at the vineyard. Alongside the wine tasting room, the estate houses two world-class restaurants, a luxury boutique hotel and a championship golf course.

Steenberg Vineyards truly embodies the essence of the Western Cape. It offers a cornucopia of experiences to indulge in, from sipping sublime wines to playing a round on an elegant golf course in the shadow of the grandeur of the Cape mountains. Steenberg offers a taste of the high-life, and it’s an experience that shouldn't be missed.
